Nid And Sancy – kidzz (Original Dub) (by nidsancy)

This surreal video shows off Belgian electropunk Euroravers Nid & Sancy pretty well. Reminds me of Soulwax, though the first N&S song I heard – No Fuck All, from the SXSW 2011 torrent – sounds like an edgier, grittier Ting Tings. Which is not a bad thing.

And yes, I suck at music comparisons. Didn’t I already establish that?

Oh, I almost forgot: To celebrate 10 years of being Nid & Sancy, they have released a 10-track compilation called Add Nightmare and Rinse for free download. Who can resist free music?

As if advertisers weren’t perceived to be obnoxious enough, media agency Ad Zookie has now introduced a new advertising model. They want to paint the outside of your home with an ad, and will pay your mortgage in return. The minimum you can have this ad up for is 3 months and it could be extended up to a year. Without warning? No idea.

If you’re going to do this, please read the contract in detail, maybe hire a lawyer.

I think this would only take off in poorer neighbourhoods and even then, who wants to be the a**hole who sold himself and his home to the devil advertisers and made the neighbourhood a pain in the eye?

Would you do this to your home? Think no money, struggling, etc.

UPDATE: I just asked two awesome (IMO) people if they would do this, and they said FOR MORTGAGE? ONLY A YEAR? I would totally do it. So maybe we should start getting used to home-ads.

UPDATE #2: Make that THREE people.

I’d actually consider this, although I know my wife would reject it out of hand and I’m sure I’d get plenty of complaints about bringing down the tone of the neighborhood, etc. Still, we have a prime location by a major road — I’d negotiate for more than a simple mortgage payment.

Pitchfork Update: 4/7/11

Here’s the current lineup for the two days I’ll be attending the Pitchfork Music Festival. Many of them are new to me, so I’ll be doing some checking and listening beforehand.

Saturday, July 16: Fleet Foxes, Destroyer, The Dismemberment Plan, No Age, Gang Gang Dance, G-Side, Woods, Sun Airway, Chrissy Murderbot

Sunday, July 17: TV on the Radio, Cut Copy, Deerhunter, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, OFWGKTA, HEALTH, Kurt Vile, Yuck, The Fresh & Onlys, Radio Dept., Baths, Shabazz Palaces, Twin Sister, Kylesa, How to Dress Well

Update: Shutdown

I am reliably informed that TSA screeners and air traffic controllers are deemed “essential,” so that in the event of a shutdown, they will still be going to work. Same with the military. However, at least in the case of the military, and I assume with other essential services workers, while they will be “getting paid” for their continued work, they will not actually receive paychecks. Presumably they will get some sort of lump-sum payment once we have a budget.

Great. Go to work in your essential job, but you won’t actually be paid for that work until some future time when Congress finally gets its shit together. I know how excited I’d be about dragging my ass into the control tower. (I know, these people will almost assuredly do their work because they believe they are doing important – even essential – jobs. But how long can they go without actual payment before their personal and family expenses mount so high as to be a major distraction?)
